The document follows the GRI (Global Reporting Initiative) international standards for adequate management of environmental, social, and economic indicators
Blog/We have recently disclosed our 2021 Sustainability Report, the first one to follow the international guidelines from the GRI (Global Reporting Initiative) focused on the adequate management of environmental, social, and economic indicators. And we want to share with you a few points of that document (hyperlink to the report).
In 2021, the world faced the Covid-19 pandemic, and society had to become more conscious and caring and change its consumption habits. People stayed more at home and began to worry more about comfort in their houses. It was a year of instability, but full of lessons.
This is not our only purpose, though. We believe that expansion and socio‑environmental responsibility go hand in hand to create a positive impact on society. Our concern goes beyond businesses, as we think about our employees and the surrounding communities through health and well-being actions. The actions that are currently in progress include our pursuit of a Zero Landfill goal in our MDF operations and an improvement of our waste management rates. The volume of waste sent to landfills, for example, has dropped from 16% in 2021 to 10% in 2022.
Our path is marked by sustainability since the beginning, from the origin of our raw materials certified by international institutes to our production and management recognized for their effective, socially and environmentally adequate procedures. Moreover, our investments in technology and modernization of our manufacturing plants are constant.
The GRI report marks the structuring of our ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) strategic plan that will guide our actions with even more transparency when it comes to performance and relevance. This management prioritizes ESG measurement in the business to mitigate risks, generate new opportunities, and ensure a more and more assertive decision-making process, as well as closer proximity to our stakeholders.
For the next year, we will define long-term public commitments and advance with new cross-sectional actions.
